NSW Department of Primary Industries has a great opportunity for an experienced Farm Manager to join the team at the Dareton Primary Industries Institute.

The Dareton Primary Industries Institute services horticultural producers in the Lower Murray Darling region of the state. Research is primarily directed at improving the sustainability of citrus production.

The Institute is in the Coomealla irrigation area, 3km from Dareton and 10km from Wentworth (the town situated at the junction of Australia’s largest rivers — the Murray and the Darling rivers). The site is 243ha in area, and about one-third of this area has soils suitable for horticulture.

In your new role as Farm Manager with the DPI, you will apply your best practice horticultural management skills while maintaining a commercial focus in relation to research activities for the Dareton Agricultural Research and Advisory Station.

Key functions of this role are to:

  • Plan and manage all farm operations including horticultural production, cover cropping and resource management
  • Lead and manage a team of staff and contractors
  • Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders for the purposes of development and implementation of operational plans
  • Utilise farming expertise to guide and inform research and commercial activities
  • Develop and oversee farm maintenance and security programs
  • Develop and manage farm budgets and records relating to farming operations
  • Provide reports and analysis of operations and activities
  • Market farm produce to best advantage

About You:

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Relevant qualifications in accordance with the Crown Employees (NSW Department of Industry, Skills & Regional Development) Technical Staff Award
  • A current knowledge and application of best practice farming in a commercial environment
  • A knowledge of machinery operation and experience in general farm maintenance
  • A current driver’s licence
