The Company

Our client is an established dynamic South Australian family-owned business supplying potatoes and onions for sale in major Australian supermarket chains and produces markets nationally. The business is experiencing high growth and provides a perfect opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated individual to take on new challenges within their business.

The Role

As a Fulltime Production Horticulturalist, you will be responsible for assisting with all facets of ground preparation, propagating and inter-row cultivation of high-quality potatoes at their SA Farms.

You will enjoy a wide variety of tasks including involving plant nursery propagation, cultivation, and irrigation and growing of vegetables as directed by the Farm Manager and Farm Agronomist.

Your Tasks include 

• Ordering seed, fertilizer and chemicals
• Selecting seeds based on weather and soil conditions and yield
• Preparing growing media and suitable trays, pots and containers
• Managing the propagation and planting operation
• Maintaining sufficient stocks of plant foods and fertilizers
• Undertaking transport and logistics for delivery of sales stock
• Ensuring relevant equipment is maintained
• Maintaining good plant health and manage the disease
• Managing biosecurity risks
• Implementing irrigation of crops
• Sampling and interpreting soil conditions and compost
• Providing advice on plant and seed varieties
• Maintaining soil, hydroponics, plant, treatment and yield records

Your Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• AQF Certificate III or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or 5 years of relevant experience
• You will have proven experience in the operation of farm machinery
• You will have good communication skills which will enable you to liaise with farm managers and harvest crews
• You will possess strong attention to detail and have passion and pride in the quality of your work
• You will have a sound understanding of farm and equipment safety
