Who are we?

We are a family farm located in South West Victoria just East of Terang milking around 550 cows. Our dairy is a computerized 50 unit rotary dairy with auto draft and teat spray. We use activity monitor technology to assist with herd health and heat detection. Our herd split calves with all replacements reared and grown out on farm.

Role tasks and description:

· You will need to be a minimum dairy operator grade 1B (farm and livestock hand level 3 – FLH3). Milking tasks will include but are not limited to:

o Operate milking plant and equipment;

o Mastitis control (identification and treatment)

o Identify and report equipment not operating normally;

o Read and record instrument information i.e. Milk vat temperatures and cow numbers;

o Solve problems and make decisions within given guidelines;

o Operate standard measuring equipment;

o Operate computerised systems using menu options;

· Set up strip fencing of paddocks

· Undertake stock work (eg yarding up, mustering using quad bikes)

· Assist with rearing young stock

· Assist with cow dry off and artificial insemination programs

· Maintain machinery, undertake adjustments and size changes

· Undertake fencing and general farm maintenance

· Undertake tractor work including feeding out, silage harvest, spraying, fertilizer spreading etc.

· Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team as well as being able to work unsupervised in all aspects of the farm including milk harvesting

· Perform tasks in an efficient, practical and safe manner and understand the principles of safe working

· Work on average a 5 day week, with 2 days off on a flexible roster.

· You will need your own transport and drivers license. We are only a 5 minutes drive to Terang where there is a supermarket, school, post office, laundrette, news agent, coffee shop, doctors, hospital etc.

Skills, qualifications and experience: The skills, qualifications and experience required for this role are

· At least an AQF certificate II or III (or equivalent); or

· At least 1 to 2 years of recent and relevant work experience
