Sylvania Veterinary Hospital is looking for a Head Veterinary Nurse to join our amazing nursing team!!

Head Nurse Position at Sylvania Veterinary Hospital

Who are we?
Sylvania Veterinary Hospital is located in South Sydney in the Sutherland Shire. We are a large, busy hospital with a reputation for providing the highest level of both patient and client care. We have 33 team members and are open7am to 11pm on weekdays, 7am to 8pm on weekends and 8am to 5pm on public holidays. Our team consists of vet nurses, junior animal attendants and vets. We have a wide range of equipment, including ultrasonography, digital radiography, endoscopy, a vet tome and advanced anaesthetic monitoring equipment, including pulse oximetry, a Parkes doppler and end tidal CO2 monitor. We have veterinarians with special interests in birds, rabbits and wildlife as well as internal medicine, surgery and diagnostic imaging, among others.

Head Nurse Position:
This is a Head Nurse position. We are looking for an experienced, energetic, team player focused on ensuring the highest standards of patient and client care in our hospital.

Responsibilities include providing excellent customer service and leading training and education of a team of 16 nurses and 6 junior animal attendants.

You will also be required to:

  • Lead and inspire the SVH team supportively to maintain the highest level of patient care and customer service
  • Manage nurse rostering
  • Implement training programs for the nurse team
  • Perform general nursing responsibilities and stock ordering
  • Be an excellent communicator and be able to delegate effectively within the team
  • Integrate and train new team members
  • Oversee client relations

This is a permanent position on a rotating 10-week roster. There are some 3-11pm shifts and weekend shifts. There is some flexibility in your rostered days off.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a desire to train and lead a great team of nurses
  • Be a great team player
  • Have a passion for outstanding customer service and patient care
  • Have outstanding work ethic
  • Have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Be committed to ongoing continuing education and teaching

Ideally you will have a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and at least 3 years experience in the veterinary industry. We would also value evidence of interest in continuing education in veterinary nursing and/or education.
